During this one hour program we will learn about two technologies - structural thermal barriers for aluminum window framing and warm-edge spacer technology for insulating glass. Mr. Gainey will:

  • Discuss the various comfort and performance-related topics in fenestration systems including, overall U-factor, condensation resistance factor (CRF), sound transmission OITC (Outdoor Indoor Transmission Class)
  • Compare two methods for optimizing the performance of aluminum fenestration components through the application of thermal barriers in the framing
  • Optimize the performance of fenestration components through the application of thermal barriers in the air space material, also known as warm-edge technology for insulating glass
  • Observe a range of measured performance outcomes, energy-savings, LEED® and Cradle to Cradlesm contribution using case study data of built commercial projects in the U.S. and globally utilizing one or both types of thermal barriers in the frame and insulating glass
This program qualifies for 1.0 hours HSW of AIA, ALA, State of Wisconsin Licensing and other Required Learning Units (HSW/SD)

PRESENTER

Mike Gainey
CSI, GANA, IGMA

Mr. Gainey, the Warm-Light business manager for Azon USA, Inc., is a 25-year veteran in the architectural and structural glazing industry working on both large and small projects across North America. He is responsible for the Azon warm-edge insulating glass spacer product. He is also a member of the Construction Specifications Institute and serves on committees of the Glass Association of North America as well as the Insulating Glass Manufacturer’s Association. Mr. Gainey is a frequent presenter at multi-regional building enclosure council seminars covering the topics of building envelopes, openings (doors and windows), sustainable design/specifications and thermal and moisture protection.

OUR NEW VENUE

This meeting will be our first at the Doubletree Hotel Milwaukee City Center, our home for the coming year. It is located at the corner of 6th and West Wisconsin Avenue in downtown Milwaukee. We have made arrangements for FREE valet parking so please enter the parking structure on 6th Street.

FUTURE PROGRAMS

If you are unable to attend the September meeting please make plans and mark your calendar to attend our October 25th or November 22nd meetings. The program in October will be Gina Coel of Nora Systems presenting "Dealing with Moisture and Contaminents - New & Existing Slabs for Flooring" and the November program will be Inpro Corporation presenting "Fighting the Super Bugs - Interior Materials that Aid in Infections Prevention".
